  1. Hello Judy,

It is great to see you. Your were integral to my teenage years, I don’t think I would have survived without your company. So many happy memories.

    xo Nancy

  2. Judy Beatty says:

Crick, I have the same memory.

  3. Crick says:

Yes. I remember Miss Strand talking about coming from Sweden and having to learn how to say “people” because she thought this word should be pronounce “pee-O-ple”

  4. Judy Beatty says:

Emily, I loved Miss Strand. Does anyone remember that she was born in Sweden?

  5. Emily Levine says:

Judy, I once wrote a pilot for a television series called “Miss Strand.” She was such a great teacher. Hope you’re well. Love the pictures of you.

Hi Shari, you’ve got the right Judy Beatty. I had Mrs. Golding in 1st and 4th grade, and Mrs. Scofield in 2nd grade. I remember Donna Hishon, Andrea Sweet. Robin Ryckman, Ceville Hetzel, Martha Tebo and lots of others. I was in Rowayton School through the sixth grade, when I had Miss Strand. Yes, I did have that telephone hookup — I’d had surgery, one of two surgeries I had during those years, as a result of polio. I moved to Santa Fe in 1973. I still miss Rowayton!

Hi Judy, I remember a Judy Beatty in Rowayton School about 1949/1950ish. You look like the Judy I remember. Perhaps the same 2nd grade class with Miss Scofield or 4th grade class with Mrs. Golding? I remember a special telephone hookup so that although you were home you participated in class discussions. In Rowayton School I remember Donna Hishon, Martha Tebo, Andrea Sweet and Robin Rykman (sp ?)

I llived in New Mexico 1972-1978 and loved visits to Santa Fe.

Hi Teddy — Jennifer (Jenny) Beatty is living in Monkton, MD, outside of Baltimore, is married to Jonathan Weiner (professor at Johns Hopkins) and has two grown sons. She works with the NASA’s F.I.R.S.T. program, which holds huge robotic competitions all over the country.

I didn’t know your dad was living on the Cape. Mom and Dad were there for 30 years, in Waquoit (near E. Falmouth) and I had 30 years of free summer vacations as a result. Oh, how I miss those! Jane Beatty, the youngest Beatty, lives in Waquoit and owns and operates a grief counseling program for children.

  9. Teddy Thompson Helfrich says:

Yes, Mom was Jennifer’s godmother – where is Jennifer these days?
I just had brunch today with my Dad – he is 86, living in a retirement community on the Cape – doing pretty well – and has already been enjoying hearing about all the Rowayton kids!

Joan, how could I forget you?? I spent a lot of time sitting on your porch and I remember eating apples from an apple tree that maybe was in your yard. And the picture of Roy Rogers you had in your bedroom.

Yes, I did go to West Rocks through the ninth grade but was having a lot of problems getting around because of my physical problems. Mom and Dad sent me to Thomas School. I had to repeat ninth grade because Thomas required 1st year algebra plus one year of French or Latin by the ninth grade, and I hadn’t had either.

The photo of you taken at the 1993 reunion at Bayley Beach was sent to me by Camilla Sloat Adams. I’ve lost touch with her, although I recently tried to track her down and did find one of her sons. But anyway, you still look very much like the Joan Bryan I used to know back in sixth grade.

I came to Santa Fe 37 years ago on a vacation and fell in love with it. I was living in NYC at the time and had been working at CBS for 5 years and was thinking about leaving the city. I still love it here.

My email is maeoutwest@aol.com if you want to write and tell me how you are, how your life has been, etc. etc.

Oh my gosh, Teddy. I remember your mom like it was yesterday and she was standing here. And your mom and dad coming to our house. She was a delightful person. Wasn’t she godmother to one of my sisters? Jennifer?

No, I didn’t know Jane Slocum lived in Santa Fe but I do know Jay Amon, although I haven’t seen him in years. Are you in touch with Jane?

I love this website even though I don’t visit it often enough. Cricky puts a lot of time into it and it shows.

  12. Joan Bryan Rose says:

Hi Judy, I was so surprised to find this Rowayton website and then to see a picture of you. I actually can see you look somewhat like the Judy I remember. How did you end up in New Mexico? We are retired here in Port Charlotte, Florida.
I guess I lost touch with you after we left Rowayton School.
Did you go on to private schools, or what?
    Hope you remember me! Joan

  13. Teddy Thompson Helfrich says:

Hi Judy – so nice to read about you and see your pictures! My mom passed away 4 years ago, but she sure would have loved to hear about you – she always loved your family! Did you know that Jane Slocum also lives in Santa Fe (and also Jay Amon, which I just learned from this website)?

  14. Judy Beatty says:

Hi All: I’m excited about this website. … (see Judy’s new article. Admin).
